Introduction

Prince Mohammad Bin Fahd University (PMU) is a private non-profit university located in the Eastern Province of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA). The University is dedicated to excellent teaching and research and has experienced significant growth over the last decade. As of the 2024 QS World Rankings, PMU is currently ranked 590th worldwide and 4th in the KSA. Overall, PMU strives to develop human intelligence, disseminate knowledge, and find solutions based on research and scientific studies of problems experienced by societies.

The Department of Chemical Engineering was recently established at PMU to promote excellence in education and research, produce high-caliber intellectual citizens who serve society with dedication and commitment, and foster creativity and innovation leading to entrepreneurship. To strengthen the strategic areas of the department, PMU is now inviting applications for multiple faculty positions at all ranks (Assistant Professor/Associate Professor/Professor) in Chemical Engineering — particularly in the areas of chemical engineering thermodynamics, process control and instrumentation, process modelling and simulation, reaction engineering, and biotechnology.

General Description

Members of PMU’s Chemical Engineering faculty will:

Qualifications & Experience (Required)

Education

• Suitable candidates should have earned their B.S., M.S., and Ph.D. degrees, all in Chemical Engineering, preferably from North American accredited institutions of higher education

Experience and Language

• Suitable candidates should preferably have proven US/Canada academic teaching, research, and ABET experience, along with professional registrations
• Suitable candidates are expected to have excellent command of the English language and should be familiar with technology-infused academic environments
• Suitable candidates are expected to teach undergraduate and graduate courses and develop funded research programs

Preferred Research Expertise

• Preference is given to candidates with expertise in experimental and computational basic and applied research in the fields of reaction engineering, nanotechnology and renewable energy applications, and desalination and water treatment
• Applicants with postdoctoral research experience will be given preference

For Associate/Full Professor Applicants

• Candidates must provide a letter of promotion from an academic institution with a documented due process to the rank of Associate or Full Professor

Duties and Responsibilities

Teaching and Curriculum

• Contribute at an appropriate level to school and faculty policy and practice in teaching
• Play a significant role in the design, development, and planning of courses and programs within the subject area, as required
• Play a significant role in the review of courses and programs, and in assessment, quality assurance, and quality enhancement, as required
• Develop innovative approaches to learning and teaching, as appropriate
• Provide timely feedback and assessment of coursework and examinations
• Provide general support and guidance to students, resolving issues and/or referring them to specialist parties, where appropriate

Scholarship and Service

• Maintain appropriate scholarly or professional development activity, so as to keep up to date with developments in the field as necessary to carry out the duties of the position
• Participate in the comprehensive advisement of students majoring in the college
• Contribute to the overall work of the college and/or equivalent external organizations, representing the institution and faculty on appropriate committees and groups
• Contribute to the management and administrative processes and committee structures of the school, faculty, and college, as required
• Participate in, manage, or lead major initiatives or areas of work, whether sustained or one-time projects, that facilitate school, faculty, or college performance and accreditation, as required
• Participate in the recruitment, management, development, and mentoring of colleagues, as required
• Perform any other position-related duties as requested by the Chair, Dean, Vice President, or President
