The American University in the Emirates (AUE) invites applications for the position of Dean of the College of Design (CDES) for the Academic Year 2026-2027. Position Overview:
The Dean shall report to the Vice President for Academic Affairs on general administrative and coordination functions related to the various instructional programs and related services offered by AUE. Additionally, the Dean provides oversight for the efficient administration of the College, ensures quality teaching, conducive learning environment, and adequate support services for all academic programs.

Teaching Load: 12 credit hours per academic year

Education and Experience Requirements:

  • To begin with, candidates must have a Ph.D. in a Design-related field from an accredited university in the United States of America or an accredited university by an American Accreditation body
  • Furthermore, 5–7 years of experience in academic leadership at the level of Associate/Assistant Dean or higher at an accredited university
  • Additionally, experience in the development of new programs that meet international standards
  • Moreover, a record of professional accomplishment including peer-reviewed publications
  • Finally, a minimum of three research publications in Scopus journals in the last five years

Key Responsibilities:

1. Instructional Delivery (Teaching Performance):

  • First and foremost, present research and practice-driven teaching
  • Additionally, adapt to latest pedagogical techniques that stimulate student inquiry
  • Furthermore, help students attain skills and competencies through engaging delivery techniques
  • Moreover, develop appropriate assessments aligned with learning outcomes

2. Instructional Management:

  • In addition, effectively manage the instructional process

3. Assessment and Evaluation:

  • Furthermore, evaluate student performance and grading fairly
  • Additionally, provide clear assessment criteria that reflect course content and learning outcomes
  • Moreover, set expectations for students and avoid cognitive biases

4. Curriculum Development and Review:

  • Additionally, contribute to regular curriculum reviewing and improvement for quality and effectiveness
  • For quality:
    • Ensure currency and relevancy of theories and practice in the field
    • Maintain intellectual rigor appropriate to the degree program level
  • For effectiveness:
    • Support increasingly complex presentation of theories, principles, and practice
    • Foster increasingly complex levels of analysis and competency development
    • Facilitate application of theories and principles

5. Research and Scholarship:

  • Furthermore, actively engage in scholarly activities
  • Additionally, publish peer-reviewed articles in area of specialization
  • Moreover, contribute to the Mission of the University

6. Professional Development:

  • In addition, acquire the latest academic techniques, discipline and professional certification
  • Furthermore, pursue technology-related development and leadership development
  • Moreover, attend in-campus and out-campus workshops, seminars, and training

7. Academic Advising and Academic Success:

  • Additionally, provide academic advising and guidance to students
  • Furthermore, support program learning outcomes, curriculum planning, and career planning

8. Service:

  • Finally, participate by working in task forces or workgroups to accomplish assignments or projects
  • Additionally, contribute to accreditation, recruitment, research administration, consultation
  • Moreover, provide service to university, discipline, and community

9. Academic Administration:

  • Furthermore, provide oversight for the efficient administration of the College

10. Academic Program Quality:

  • Additionally, ensure quality teaching, conducive learning environment, and adequate support services for all academic programs offered in the College

11. Academic Program Sustainability:

  • Moreover, manage the viability and sustainability of academic programs to meet stakeholder needs and compliance requirements

12. Academic Support:

  • Finally, coordinate and provide adequate resources for faculty, students, and support staff for effective operation of the College
