Job Description
Muscat University invites applications for an Assistant Professor in Maritime Transport to join the Faculty of Transport & Logistics. Applications are welcome from candidates with experience in maritime transport, port and terminal operations, shipping economics, freight logistics, and international trade.
Position Overview:
The post holder will work with the Faculty Dean to ensure efficient delivery of modules and will be responsible for curriculum management and enhancement activities complying with Oman Academic Accreditation Authority (OAAA) standards.

- Maritime Transport and Shipping
- Port and Terminal Management
- Freight and Cargo Operations
- International Trade and Logistics
- Maritime Law and Regulations
- Sustainable Shipping
Key Responsibilities:
- Deliver high-quality teaching on Maritime Transport and Logistics Management modules to undergraduate and postgraduate students
- Construct, plan, and assess student assignments
- Liaise with Faculty Dean on student matters including timetabling and academic support
- Undertake role of Academic Advisor/Personal Tutor
- Conduct research and scholarly activity for publication in international academic journals
- Engage with external maritime and logistics bodies and industry to enrich student experience
- Promote Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) agenda with external community and stakeholders
- Participate in university meetings including Board of Examiners and Programme Reviews
- Supervise UG final-year projects and PG dissertations
- Engage with businesses, professional bodies, port authorities, and shipping companies
Qualifications & Experience:
- PhD in Maritime Transport, Shipping, or closely related field (Assistant Professor rank)
- Master’s degree considered for Lecturer rank only
- Minimum 2 years Higher Education teaching experience (GCC region preferred)
- Professional qualifications/memberships in recognized bodies (Nautical Institute, CILT UK, or equivalent)
- 1-2 years’ experience teaching Maritime Transport or Shipping modules in Higher Education
- Experience in Omani and GCC HE environments
- Strong links to maritime industry, ports, and shipping companies
- Academic accreditation or quality assurance experience
