The United Arab Emirates University (UAEU) invites applications for a faculty position at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor in Sociology. Qualified candidates will be considered at a rank commensurate with academic accomplishments. This position offers an opportunity to contribute to sociological research and education at one of the UAE’s premier higher education institutions.

Position Overview:

The Department seeks candidates with specialization in quantitative and qualitative research methodology, with strong focus preferably in one of the following research areas: population studies, social policy research, economic sociology, sociology of consumption, quality of life studies, or sociology of medicine. The successful candidate will demonstrate a strong commitment to teaching excellence and student advising at both undergraduate and graduate levels.

• Quantitative and Qualitative Research Methodologies

Key Responsibilities:

Teaching:

• Deliver undergraduate and graduate courses in sociology and research methodology
• Demonstrate teaching excellence through innovative pedagogical approaches
• Advise and mentor students at both undergraduate and graduate levels
• Contribute to curriculum design and program development

Research:

• Maintain a clear research agenda with strong research capability
• Develop and successfully complete internally and/or externally funded research grants
• Publish research findings in top-ranked refereed journals
• Establish strong record of Scopus-indexed publications with strong citation index

Supervision:

• Supervise graduate student research and theses
• Guide student projects and academic development
• Mentor students in research methodologies

Service:

• Actively engage in promoting the growth of UAE University
• Contribute to department, college, university, and community service
• Participate in program development and quality assurance initiatives

Required Qualifications:

• Doctorate degree in Sociology, Applied Sociology, Population Studies, Economic Sociology, Social Psychology, or Social Statistics from an accredited institution
• Ability to teach undergraduate courses (required)
• Strong theoretical knowledge and applied skills in teaching and research
• Excellent command of written, reading, and spoken English

Preferred Qualifications:

• Ph.D. in Sociology from an accredited and reputable university granted through full-time doctoral study
• Strong and continuous record of publishing research in Scopus-indexed journals
• Strong citation index in Scopus
• Experience teaching a variety of graduate and undergraduate courses
• Experience supervising graduate student research and theses
• Expertise in program development and curriculum design
• High-quality service record at department, college, university, and community levels
• Industrial and professional experience (plus)
