Job Description
The School of Architecture, Art, and Design at the American University in Dubai (AUD) invites qualified applicants for the position of Assistant or Associate Professor of Urban Design to begin teaching in Fall 2026. Therefore, this role offers an excellent opportunity to contribute to urban design education, research, and academic service at a prestigious private institution in Dubai.
About AUD:

Position Overview:
The successful candidate will have a completed Ph.D. in Urban Design, Urban Planning, or Architecture from a Western-accredited institution at the time of appointment. Additionally, candidates must demonstrate evidence of successful teaching experience or significant potential for teaching effectiveness and excellence at the graduate level. Furthermore, they are expected to meet standards for personal professional scholarship and assist in student advising, curriculum development, and other services to the program, department, school, and community.
Required Qualifications:
- To begin with, candidates must have a completed Ph.D. in Urban Design, Urban Planning, or Architecture from a Western-accredited institution at the time of appointment
- Furthermore, demonstrated effectiveness in teaching urban topics at the university level
- Additionally, digital literacy in the commonly used software for Urban Design, with demonstrated application of at least two of the following (Certified instructors are preferred):
- Artificial Intelligence (AI) and machine learning for urban data analysis and design
- Geographic Information Systems (GIS)
- Parametric and Generative Design
- Moreover, an active research agenda in Urbanism with a focus on topics such as emerging technologies, environmental sustainability, urban infrastructure, and social inclusion, evidenced by publications, presentations, or funded projects
- Additionally, ability to teach both design studio and lecture courses within a broad urban design curriculum
- Furthermore, ability to work within a diverse student and faculty community
- Moreover, evidence of previous collaborations with government agencies or private industry in the field of Urban Design (favorable)
- Additionally, knowledge and experience in teaching Architecture courses and digital literacy in the most common software for architecture such as Revit and Rhino (favorable)
- Furthermore, experience in supervising thesis research and projects at the postgraduate level (favorable)
Key Responsibilities:
- First and foremost, deliver high-quality instruction in Urban Design, including both design studio and lecture courses
- Additionally, contribute to curriculum development and program enhancement
- Furthermore, engage in professional scholarship and research in urbanism
- Moreover, provide student advising and academic support
- In addition, supervise thesis research and projects at the postgraduate level
- Furthermore, participate in service activities at the program, department, school, and community levels
