About the Role

The Coach – Wellness Services will work primarily with faculty and staff to increase participation in wellness activities throughout the academic year.

The position combines:

  • Group fitness instruction.
  • Individual wellness coaching.
  • Health and wellbeing education.
  • Employee engagement.
  • Wellness programme development.
  • Facility operations.
  • Evening supervision of the Wellness Center.

The successful candidate will also help ensure that the Wellness Center operates safely, efficiently, and inclusively during the evening shift.

Fitness and Wellness Programme Delivery

The Coach – Wellness Services will be expected to:

  • Design and deliver safe and inclusive group fitness classes for participants with different levels of ability.
  • Provide appropriate exercise modifications where required.
  • Deliver personalised wellness coaching and exercise guidance.
  • Provide evidence-based health education covering areas such as:
    • Stress management.
    • Recovery.
    • Work-life balance.
  • Demonstrate correct exercise techniques and equipment use.
  • Monitor participant safety and progress.
  • Maintain accurate programme records, including:
    • Attendance.
    • Coaching notes.
    • Schedules.
    • Programme metrics.

Faculty and Staff Engagement

The role will support employee participation in wellness activities across the university.

Responsibilities include:

  • Implementing an academic-year wellness engagement strategy.
  • Delivering targeted workshops and health campaigns.
  • Supporting university-wide wellness initiatives.
  • Conducting outreach across departments and university units.
  • Promoting activities through digital channels, presentations, and print communications.
  • Identifying barriers that may prevent participation.
  • Recommending accessible and culturally responsive wellness programmes.
  • Collecting participant feedback.
  • Working with campus stakeholders to evaluate and improve programmes.

Wellness Center Operations and Evening Supervision

The successful candidate will oversee Wellness Center activities during the evening shift.

Responsibilities include:

  • Supervising facility operations and member services.
  • Ensuring compliance with safety procedures.
  • Completing opening and closing procedures.
  • Conducting routine facility inspections.
  • Reporting equipment maintenance requirements.
  • Responding to service enquiries.
  • Managing incidents and conflicts.
  • Serving as a first point of contact during first-aid emergencies.
  • Maintaining shift logs and incident reports.
  • Coordinating with security, facilities, and emergency services where necessary.

Qualifications and Experience

Applicants must hold a Bachelor’s degree in Physical Education, Sports Management, or a related field.

Candidates must also have at least two years of relevant experience involving:

  • Group fitness instruction.
  • Individual wellness coaching.
  • Facility supervision or oversight.

Relevant experience should have been gained within higher education, recreation, or a comparable setting.
