Job Description

The Department of Applied Physics and Astronomy at the University of Sharjah invites applications for a full-time Assistant Professor in Mathematical/Theoretical Physics, commencing in Fall 2026/2027. Therefore, this role offers an excellent opportunity to contribute to high-quality instruction, research, and academic service at a leading university in the UAE.

Position Overview:
The successful candidate will deliver high-quality instruction in mathematical and theoretical physics at the undergraduate and/or graduate level, fostering students’ understanding of complex physical concepts and mathematical modeling techniques. Furthermore, the position involves developing innovative course content, supervising research projects, and contributing to the academic mission of the department through scholarly research and interdisciplinary collaboration.

Key Responsibilities:

Teaching:

  • First and foremost, deliver high-quality instruction in mathematical and theoretical physics at undergraduate and graduate levels
  • Additionally, develop innovative course content and teaching methodologies
  • Furthermore, foster students’ understanding of complex physical concepts and mathematical modeling techniques
  • Moreover, provide mentorship and guidance to a diverse student body

Research:

  • In addition, establish a systematic research program in mathematical or theoretical physics
  • Furthermore, initiate and lead an independent research program capable of securing external funding
  • Additionally, demonstrate strong originality and productivity in high-quality research
  • Moreover, develop theoretical approaches and implement AI tools in research (advantage)

Academic Service:

  • Furthermore, contribute to curricular development and program enhancement
  • Additionally, participate in service activities, including committee work
  • Moreover, provide student advising and foster industry collaborations
  • Furthermore, supervise research projects at undergraduate and graduate levels

Required Qualifications:

  • To begin with, candidates must have a Ph.D. in Mathematical or Theoretical Physics or closely related fields from an accredited, highly ranked institution (Top 200 QS ranked)
  • Furthermore, a strong record of originality and productivity in high-quality research
  • Additionally, a minimum of two years of teaching experience at both undergraduate and graduate levels
  • Moreover, experience in developing theoretical approaches and implementing AI tools in research (added advantage)
  • Finally, research interests in astrophysics and cosmology are highly desired
