Job Description
The Department of Sociology at the College of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences (CAHSS), University of Sharjah, invites applications for a full-time Professor of Development Policies position. This appointment begins in the Fall semester of the 2026–2027 academic year.
Position Overview:
The Department seeks an accomplished scholar with specialization in Development Policies to teach undergraduate and postgraduate courses, supervise Master’s and PhD theses, and engage in scholarly research and publication. The successful candidate will join a dynamic academic community at one of the UAE’s leading universities.
Key Responsibilities:
Teaching:
- Deliver lectures and seminars in Applied Sociology, with a focus on Development Policies and Social Policy Analysis at undergraduate and postgraduate levels
- Develop and update course materials and curricula
Research & Scholarship:
- Conduct and publish academic research in the field of specialization
- Maintain a strong academic publication record in Development Policies and Social Policy (in both English and Arabic)
Supervision:
- Supervise student research and theses at Master’s and PhD levels
- Ensure quality and rigor in students’ scholarly work
Academic Service:
- Participate in departmental activities and contribute to academic planning
- Support university and community initiatives
- Assist in accreditation processes and fulfill academic quality requirements
Required Qualifications:
- PhD in Applied Sociology, with a specialization in Development Policies from a recognized and reputable university where English is the language of instruction
- Minimum of 10 years of university-level teaching experience
- Proven ability to develop and deliver academic courses
- Proficiency in both English and Arabic for teaching and publication
- Strong academic publication record and track record in Development Policies and Social Policy (in both English and Arabic)
- Proficiency in digital tools and platforms (e.g., ICDL certification)
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience supervising doctoral research
- Track record of securing research funding
- Engagement with policy-making institutions and development agencies
- Contribution to policy analysis and development at national or regional levels
- Experience in curriculum development and program review
- Familiarity with development challenges in the UAE and Gulf region
