Job Description
The Department of Sociology at the College of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences (CAHSS), University of Sharjah, invites applications for a full-time Professor of Criminology and Criminal Justice position. This appointment begins in the Fall semester of the 2026–2027 academic year.
Position Overview:
The Department seeks an accomplished scholar with specialization in Criminology and Criminal Justice to teach undergraduate and postgraduate courses, supervise Master’s and PhD theses, and engage in scholarly research and publication. The successful candidate will join a dynamic academic community at one of the UAE’s leading universities.
Key Responsibilities:
Teaching:
- Deliver lectures and seminars in Applied Sociology, with a focus on Criminology and Criminal Justice at undergraduate and postgraduate levels
- Develop and update course materials and curricula
Research & Scholarship:
- Conduct and publish academic research in the field of specialization
- Maintain a strong academic publication record in Criminology and Criminal Justice (in both English and Arabic)
Supervision:
- Supervise student research and theses at Master’s and PhD levels
- Ensure quality and rigor in students’ scholarly work
Academic Service:
- Participate in departmental activities and contribute to academic planning
- Support university and community initiatives
- Assist in accreditation processes and fulfill academic quality requirements
Required Qualifications:
- PhD in Applied Sociology, with a specialization in Criminology and Criminal Justice
- Graduate of a recognized and reputable university where English is the language of instruction
- Minimum of 10 years of university-level teaching experience
- Proven ability to develop and deliver academic courses
- Proficiency in both English and Arabic for teaching and publication
- Proficiency in analyzing crime scene (practical expertise)
- Strong academic publication record and track record in Criminology and Criminal Justice (in both English and Arabic)
- Proficiency in digital tools and platforms (e.g., ICDL certification)
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience supervising doctoral research
- Track record of securing research funding
- Engagement with criminal justice institutions and agencies
- Contribution to policy development in criminology and criminal justice
- Experience in curriculum development and program review
