Job Description

The Department of Foreign Languages at the University of Sharjah invites applications for a full-time Associate or Full Professor of English Literature with significant experience teaching and supervising at Undergraduate and Postgraduate levels. This position commences in the Fall semester of the Academic Year 2026/2027.

Position Overview:
The Department seeks an accomplished scholar with a high level of published research and a specialism in Creative Writing, Modern American Literature, or World Literature. The successful candidate will contribute to teaching, research, and academic service at one of the UAE’s leading universities.

Research & Teaching Specializations:

• Creative Writing
• Modern American Literature
• World Literature

Key Responsibilities:

Teaching:

• Teach effectively at all levels of the curriculum at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels
• Deliver courses in English Literature with specialization in one or more of the preferred areas

Research & Scholarship:

• Engage in research activities and lead initiatives resulting in publications in high-ranking, refereed scholarly journals
• Maintain an active research profile appropriate to rank

Student Mentorship:

• Provide academic guidance and mentorship to students, fostering their professional and personal development
• Oversee research supervision of postgraduate students’ research projects and theses
• Ensure quality and rigor in students’ scholarly work

Academic Service:

• Perform assigned administrative responsibilities as delegated by the department and the college
• Contribute to curriculum development and program enhancement

Required Qualifications:

• PhD in English Literature from an accredited institution
• Specialization in one or more of: Creative Writing, Modern American Literature, World Literature
• Significant experience teaching and supervising at Undergraduate and Postgraduate levels
• High level of published research in refereed scholarly journals
• Proven record of research excellence appropriate to rank (Associate or Full Professor)

Preferred Qualifications:

• Demonstrated excellence in postgraduate supervision
• Track record of curriculum development
• Experience with program accreditation processes
• Active engagement in professional and academic communities
