Job Description

The Department of Civil Engineering & Architecture at Sultan Qaboos University (SQU) invites applications for Associate Professor or Assistant Professor positions specializing in Architectural Engineering/Architecture. The successful candidate will contribute to teaching, research, and service in computational design and built heritage.

General Duties:

• Teach academic courses within specialization in accordance with quality standards
• Supervise graduation projects and postgraduate theses (Master’s and PhD)
• Provide academic advising and support students in academic and career planning
• Attend departmental and college council meetings
• Participate in internal and external committees
• Prepare and publish scholarly research in relevant field
• Offer scientific consultations and participate in conferences and symposia
• Contribute to community service through workshops, seminars, and research studies
• Build local and international partnerships

Specific Duties:

• Conduct cutting-edge research in field of expertise
• Develop and deliver undergraduate and postgraduate courses (English medium)
• Supervise, advise, and mentor students at undergraduate and postgraduate levels
• Publish research findings in reputable refereed journals and conferences
• Engage in collaborative interdisciplinary research projects
• Demonstrate track record of attracting external funds and consultancies
• Contribute to quality assurance activities

Required Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree, M.Sc. and PhD in Architectural Engineering/Architecture
• In-depth expertise in computational design and built heritage
• Preference for candidates with expertise in: BIM, digital fabrication, generative design, AR/VR, data-driven design, ML, and AI for sustainable design

Teaching Areas:

• Conservation management of built heritage
• Architectural design studio
• History and theory of architecture
• Architectural drawings and graphics

Required Experience:

• Minimum 3 years university teaching and research experience
• Strong communication skills and commitment to student mentoring
• High level of analytical and problem-solving capability
• Planning and organizational skills
• Team working skills with high level of cooperation
• Professional registration in area of expertise (advantageous)

General Requirements:

• Good conduct required
• Qualifications must be obtained through full-time study (distance, blended learning not accepted)
• Medical fitness required
• One application per candidate per college
