Job Description

The College of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences – Department of Education – at the University of Sharjah invites applications for a faculty position at the rank of Assistant Professor in Special Education. This appointment commences in Fall Semester 2026.

Position Overview:

The Department seeks a dedicated scholar specializing in Hearing Impairment, Visual Impairment, or Intellectual Disabilities. The successful candidate will contribute to the Bachelor of Special Education program through teaching, research, and academic service while supporting program development and accreditation initiatives.

Key Responsibilities:

Teaching & Curriculum Development:

• Teach undergraduate courses in the Bachelor of Special Education Program
• Utilize modern technologies and innovative teaching methods
• Prepare and develop course syllabi, instructional materials, and learning units
• Supervise practicum and field training for students in schools and accredited institutions
• Supervise graduation projects and research theses

Research & Scholarship:

• Conduct research in special education fields
• Publish in Scopus-indexed journals
• Maintain appropriate H-index and research profile
• Engage in curriculum development and research initiatives

Academic Service:

• Contribute to program development and enhancement aligned with accreditation standards
• Participate in departmental, college, and university committees and activities
• Support quality assurance, accreditation, and institutional effectiveness processes
• Engage in community service and academic events

Required Qualifications & Skills:

• PhD in Special Education with specialization in Hearing Impairment, Visual Impairment, or Intellectual Disabilities only
• Degree from recognized and reputable English-speaking university (preferred)
• Strong Scopus-indexed research record with appropriate H-index
• Proven ability in curriculum development and research initiatives
• Minimum two years of university-level teaching experience
• Proficiency in both English and Arabic for teaching, publications, and communication
• Proficiency in modern educational technologies and advanced teaching methods
• Ability to employ modern and effective teaching strategies
• Strong communication skills and collaborative ability
• Ability to design and implement inclusive academic environments
