Job Description

The Department of Mechanical and Industrial Engineering at Sultan Qaboos University (SQU) invites applications for Associate Professor or Assistant Professor positions in Industrial Engineering. Successful candidates will begin in Fall 2026 or Spring 2027.

Research Areas (including but not limited to):

• Operations research, optimization, and decision analytics
• Production systems and manufacturing processes
• Quality engineering, reliability, and maintenance engineering
• Supply chain and logistics management
• Human factors, ergonomics, and occupational safety
• Simulation, data-driven modeling, and digital twins
• Operations management and engineering economics
• Industry 4.0, smart manufacturing, and digital transformation

Strong preference for candidates with expertise in AI, Machine Learning, and Industry 4.0 technologies applied to industrial systems.

General Duties:

• Teach academic courses within specialization in accordance with quality standards
• Supervise graduation projects and postgraduate theses (Master’s and PhD)
• Provide academic advising and support students
• Attend departmental and college council meetings
• Participate in internal and external committees
• Prepare and publish scholarly research in relevant field
• Offer scientific consultations and participate in conferences
• Contribute to community service through workshops and seminars
• Build local and international partnerships

Specific Duties:

• Teach undergraduate and graduate courses in Industrial Engineering
• Assist in curriculum development, review, and assessment
• Attract competitive research funding
• Publish research findings in reputable refereed journals and conferences
• Engage in collaborative interdisciplinary research projects

Required Qualifications:

• PhD in Industrial Engineering or closely related field (Operations Research, Manufacturing Engineering, Systems Engineering, Engineering Management)
• Minimum 3 years university teaching and research experience
• Strong background in Industrial Engineering
• Excellent research and publication record commensurate with rank
• Strong commitment to teaching excellence

• Qualifications must be obtained through full-time study (distance, blended learning not accepted)
• Medical fitness required
