Job Description
Job Title: Career Advisor
Institution: Dubai University
Job Purpose :
Briefly state the primary objective or purpose of this position in one or two sentences.
The Career Advisor role is to support and to coordinate for internship opportunities and career services for students and alumni.
The role involves collaborating with ICDC and alumni personnel, student services, and faculty members and employers to ensure
the delivery of career development services with a focus on enhancing the overall career development strategy.
Section 3. Key Responsibilities
Describe the major duties and responsibilities of the position and assign a number in order of their importance.
Primary Responsibilities – Career Services :
- 1. Serve as a primary liaison to various university departments on behalf of ICDC including Admissions, Registration, Colleges, UD
- Professional Centers, Students Services, faculty and industry representatives, providing comprehensive information about ICDC.
- 2. Lead the development and implementation of career programs for both current students and graduates.
- 3. Assist in formulating and executing career development strategies to enhance students’ employability.
- 4. Create and maintain strong partnerships between employers and UD ICDC to create employment opportunities for our
- students and graduates.
- 5. Provide guidance to students and alumni on employment opportunities through various employers.
- 6. Promote career awareness, exploration, and planning among students and alumni.
- 7. Offer assistance to students and alumni in major selection, career planning, resume and cover letter writing, interviewing
- techniques, job search strategies, and job negotiation.
- 8. Organize face to face and virtual career events and activities including (open days, job fairs, employers’ award ceremonies, etc.)
- 9. Organize career-related workshops, webinars, and networking events to meet the needs of UD students and alumni.
- 10. Cultivate and manage a network of career speakers.
- 11. Maintain the online jobs database.
- 12. Monitor local and international workforce trends and develop/implement strategies within the career services area that help
- address these needs.
- 13. Assist in compiling and providing data that is compliant with all federal and programmatic accreditation requirements
- including, but not limited to recruitment activities, career employment reports, academic areas represented in placements,
- salary scales, job market research reports, etc.
- 14. Use and maintain technology applications within the department, including, but not limited to web-based products and
- services, employer and student online services i.e., LinkedIn to connect students to alumni and job seekers to employers.
- 15. Contribute to the creation and implementation of employer surveys, graduate surveys, response rates, and reporting results.
- 16. Create reports on career activities.
Secondary Responsibilities – Internship :
- 1. Act as a liaison between the student, colleges and the internship providers.
- 2. Collaborate with faculty and administration within Internship policy and procedures for ensuring the academic quality and
- integrity of internships
- 3. Initiate, build and sustain partnerships with employers to develop student opportunities for experiential endeavors.
- 4. Handle Summer Internship placement for LLB students.
- 5. Coordinate the registration process for internship and Industry Project course.
- 6. Conduct site visits to evaluate appropriateness of host organizations and relevance of internships for students.
- 7. Oversee internship placement formalities for undergraduate and graduate students providing employment information,
- paperwork and authorization.
- 8. Ensure timely submission that all requirements needed for the completion of the internship program by students.
- 9. Assist in the preparation of a comprehensive Internship PowerPoint presentation covering Internship general guidelines and
- requirements.
- 10. Organize and co-conduct internship Orientation days and information programs.
- 11. Perform initial screening for job descriptions, internship proposals and training plans before forwarding them to Academic
- Supervisors.
- 12. Address concerns from students, Academic Supervisors and employers regarding the Internship program in an efficient and
- professional manner.
- 13. Regularly review and propose amendments to the Internship webpage.
- 14. Contribute to the creation/implementation of Internship providers’ surveys, response rates and reporting results.
- 15. Perform other essential duties and tasks specific to the position.
- 16. Collaborate in assessing the effectiveness of internship programs by identifying policies and procedure gaps and proposing
- recommendations for improvement.
- 17. Update Internship providers’ database on a regular basis.

Experience
:
Minimum five years’ work experience with a recruitment or career counseling firm or in a university.
Competencies :
- Career Counseling Skills: Ability to provide effective career guidance and counseling to students, including resume writing,
- interview preparation, and job search strategies.
- Knowledge of Labor Market Trends: Understanding of current labor market trends and employer needs to effectively advise
- students.
- Problem-Solving Skills: Strong problem-solving abilities to address student concerns and career planning challenges.
- Organizational Skills: Strong organizational skills to manage multiple tasks, events, and projects simultaneously.
- Data Analysis Skills: Proficiency in analyzing data related to career services and student outcomes to inform program
- improvements.
- Event Planning and Coordination: Experience in planning and executing job fairs, workshops, and other career-related events.
- Technological Proficiency: Proficiency in using career services software, databases, and other relevant technology.
- Networking Abilities: Ability to build and maintain relationships with employers, alumni, and other stakeholders.
- Interpersonal and Communication Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication skills for interacting with students,
- employers, and university staff.
- Team Collaboration: Ability to work collaboratively with university departments and external organizations.
