About the Role

NYU Abu Dhabi (NYUAD) seeks a Technical Support Specialist to provide expert AV and technical assistance for exhibitions, performances, and academic projects within the Arts & Humanities Division. This role supports faculty, staff, and students in executing creative projects while ensuring safety, collaboration, and cutting-edge technical integration.

Key Responsibilities

General Duties

• Foster a collaborative environment emphasizing space etiquette, safety, and technical innovation.
• Support faculty, staff, and students in class projects, capstone presentations, and artistic installations.
• Provide technical expertise for exhibitions, including video, projection, and lighting systems.
• Maintain and operate AV equipment, ensuring functionality and security.
• Serve as a resource for students on technical aspects of artistic projects.
• Liaise with internal (Technical/Production teams) and external (Project Space/Art Gallery) stakeholders.

Technical Duties

• Set up and troubleshoot video, projection, and lighting systems for events.
• Manage equipment inventory, maintenance, and repairs.
• Stay updated on emerging AV technologies and recommend upgrades.
• Assist in procuring new audiovisual equipment for academic and research needs.

Academic Support

• Provide technical guidance for programs in Arts Practice, Film & New Media, Interactive Media, Music, Theater, and MFA.
• Conduct workshops/training on AV technology for artistic projects.
• Collaborate with faculty to integrate technical skills into curricula.
• Evaluate student projects with a focus on technical execution.

Operational Duties

• Coordinate equipment scheduling and space usage across departments.
• Supervise student assistants and technicians.
• Maintain inventory and safety protocols for AV equipment.
• Act as a liaison between faculty, students, and the Arts Leadership Team.

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Theatre Arts, Audiovisual Technology, or related field (or equivalent experience).
• Expertise in video/projection/lighting systems (DMX, MIDI, OSC protocols).
• Proficiency in Qlab, Mad Mapper, Resolume, or Touch Designer (preferred).
• Strong troubleshooting skills for live events and exhibitions.
• Knowledge of electrical safety, rigging, and fabrication (woodworking a plus).
• Experience in educational settings preferred.
