Job Description
The Department of Applied Biology in the College of Sciences at the University of Sharjah invites applications for a full-time Assistant Professor in Computational Biology and Omics, commencing in Fall 2026. This position offers an opportunity to contribute to biotechnology education and research in a dynamic academic environment.
Position Overview:
The Department seeks a qualified faculty member with strong teaching capabilities and a robust research track record. The successful candidate will contribute to undergraduate and graduate biotechnology courses while building research groups in computational biology and omics.
Key Responsibilities:
Teaching:
- Deliver undergraduate and graduate courses in:
- Bioinformatics and Advanced Bioinformatics
- Data Analysis for Biological Sciences
- General Biology
- Systems Biology
- Utilize effective and innovative teaching practices
- Develop and enhance course curriculum
- Implement assessment tools to evaluate student learning outcomes
Supervision:
- Supervise fourth-year graduation projects
- Mentor MSc research projects
- Provide academic and professional advising to students
- Support student educational and professional development
Research & Innovation:
- Conduct high-quality research in computational biology and omics
- Publish in peer-reviewed journals with strong impact
- Build research groups in biotechnology
- Secure internal and external research funding
- Demonstrate research impact through citations and publications
Academic Service:
- Participate in program and curriculum development
- Contribute to accreditation processes
- Engage in collaboration and academic service
- Support community outreach initiatives
- Participate in student extracurricular activities
Required Qualifications & Skills:
- Ph.D. in Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, or closely related field from a university recognized by the UAE Ministry of Higher Education
- Preference for candidates from universities ranked among the top 200 worldwide
- Strong research publication record in bioinformatics, computational biology, and omics in peer-reviewed journals
- Minimum two years of teaching experience at undergraduate level
- Professionalism in computational biology and omics techniques
- Evidence of teaching effectiveness at undergraduate and graduate levels
- Demonstrated student supervision experience
- Familiarity with accreditation processes
Preferred Qualifications:
- Postdoctoral experience supported by impactful first-author publications in computational biology and omics
- Record of external research funding
- Alignment with existing research priorities at University of Sharjah
- Contributions to academic service and professional societies
