Job Description
Muscat University invites applications for an Assistant Professor in Sustainable Shipping to join the Faculty of Transport & Logistics. This full-time faculty position offers an opportunity to contribute to teaching and research in sustainable maritime transport, green shipping, decarbonization, environmental regulations, and circular economy in logistics.
Position Overview:
The post holder will work with the Faculty Dean to ensure efficient delivery of modules and will be responsible for teaching modules such as Sustainable Shipping and Decarbonization, Green Port Management, Environmental Regulations in Maritime (IMO, MARPOL), Alternative Fuels and Propulsion, and Sustainable Logistics and Supply Chain Management.
Key Responsibilities:
- Deliver high-quality teaching for undergraduate and graduate Transport and Logistics Management programs with focus on shipping sustainability
- Construct, plan, and assess student assignments
- Liaise with Faculty Dean on student matters including timetabling and academic support
- Undertake role of Academic Advisor/Personal Tutor
- Conduct research and scholarly activity for publication in international academic journals
- Engage with maritime and logistics bodies and industry to enrich student experience
- Promote Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) agenda with external community and stakeholders
- Participate in university meetings including Board of Examiners, Programme Reviews, and Staff/Student Liaison
- Engage with businesses, professional bodies, port authorities, and shipping companies
- Organize student outreach and invite industry speakers
Qualifications & Experience:
- PhD in Sustainable Shipping, Maritime Transport, Environmental Management, or closely related field (Assistant Professor rank)
- Master’s degree considered for Lecturer rank only
- Minimum 2 years Higher Education teaching experience (GCC region preferred)
- Professional qualifications/memberships in recognized bodies (Nautical Institute, CILT UK, or equivalent)
- Experience teaching modules in Sustainable Shipping or Maritime Transport
- Experience in Omani and GCC HE environments
- Strong links to maritime and sustainability industry
- Academic accreditation or quality assurance experience
- Experience with sustainability frameworks such as IMO 2050 strategy or GHG reduction targets
