Job Description

Muscat University invites applications for an Assistant Professor in Mathematics to support delivery of postgraduate, undergraduate, foundation, and executive programmes for BSc Cybersecurity, Cyber Forensics, BEng Digital and Software Engineering, BSc Data Science and Artificial Intelligence, and Engineering programmes.

Position Overview:
This is a predominantly teaching-focused position. Applicants should demonstrate excellence in teaching and research. Preference will be given to candidates with administrative experience.

Key Responsibilities:

Teaching:

  • Deliver modules at undergraduate and postgraduate levels in Calculus, Statistics, Linear Algebra, Applied Mathematics, and related areas
  • Normal teaching load: 3–4 modules per semester (2 semesters per academic year)
  • Supervise postgraduate theses

Project Supervision:

  • Oversee undergraduate and postgraduate projects and dissertations
  • Guide students on research methodologies and outcomes

Research:

  • Actively participate in scholarly research leading to publications in refereed, indexed, and ranked international journals
  • Initiate and develop research collaborations for successful grant applications
  • Produce high-quality scholarly work enhancing departmental research output

Curriculum Development:

  • Play significant role in curriculum development and graduate supervision
  • Attract research funding to support programme initiatives

Community Engagement:

  • Participate in service activities for university, professional, and local communities

Qualifications, Experience & Competencies:

Educational Qualifications:

  • PhD in Mathematics, Applied Mathematics, Statistics, or related area from internationally recognized university

Specialization Areas:

  • Pure Mathematics, Applied Mathematics, Statistics, Probability, Numerical Methods, or Mathematical Modelling

Teaching Experience:

  • Demonstrated experience teaching Mathematics courses at undergraduate and postgraduate levels
  • Experience supervising research projects

Research Engagement:

  • Active involvement in research within specialization areas

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Relevant industry experience complementing academic qualifications
  • Strong practical computing skills relevant to area of expertise
  • Evidence of active participation in university, professional, and local community initiatives
