Job Description

The Department of International Relations in the College of Public Policy at the University of Sharjah invites applications for a full-time Assistant Professor in International Relations, commencing in Fall Semester 2026/2027. This position offers an opportunity to contribute to undergraduate and graduate education in a dynamic academic environment.

Position Overview:

The College seeks a qualified candidate with strong teaching potential and emerging research profile. The successful candidate will support teaching, research, and academic advising activities in line with departmental and college requirements.

Key Responsibilities:

Teaching:

• Develop and teach undergraduate and master’s level courses in one or more of the following areas:
  • International Relations Theory
  • International Political Economy
  • Foreign Policy Analysis
  • International Security
  • International Organizations and Global Governance
  • International Law and Ethics
  • Regional Studies
  • Other IR sub-fields as required

Research & Scholarship:

• Demonstrate strong research potential and scholarly output
• Build an emerging research and publication record
• Engage in professional development activities to enhance disciplinary expertise

Supervision & Advising:

• Provide academic advising to undergraduate and graduate students
• Supervise postgraduate theses under departmental supervision and guidelines

Academic Service:

• Participate in program, department, and college activities and events
• Serve on faculty committees as appointed
• Contribute to community engagement, policy dialogue, and outreach activities

Required Qualifications & Skills:

• Ph.D. in International Relations, Political Science, or closely related field from an accredited institution
• Effective teaching skills with ability to teach undergraduate and graduate IR courses
• Emerging research and publication record demonstrating academic potential
• Excellent oral and written communication skills in English
• Strong interpersonal skills with students
• Commitment to supporting students in a diverse and multicultural academic environment
• Team-oriented approach to departmental development

Preferred Qualifications:

• Teaching experience at university level
• Publications in peer-reviewed journals
• Familiarity with regional and global IR issues
• Engagement with policy communities
