Assistant/Associate Professor in Quantum Computing (Visiting Faculty) | University of Sharjah

Job Description

The Department of Applied Physics and Astronomy at the University of Sharjah invites applications for a visiting faculty position at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor in Quantum Computing, commencing in Fall 2026/2027. Position Overview:
The successful candidate will deliver high-quality instruction in Quantum Computing and Quantum Physics at the undergraduate and/or graduate level, fostering students’ understanding of fundamentals of quantum physics, quantum computing, and relevant technologies. Furthermore, the position involves developing innovative course content, supervising research projects, and contributing to the academic mission of the department through scholarly research and interdisciplinary collaboration.

Key Responsibilities:

Teaching:

• First and foremost, deliver high-quality instruction in Quantum Computing and Quantum Physics at undergraduate and graduate levels
• Additionally, develop innovative course content and teaching methodologies
• Furthermore, foster students’ understanding of fundamentals of quantum physics, quantum computing, and relevant technologies
• Moreover, provide mentorship and guidance to a diverse student body

Research:

• In addition, establish a systematic research program in quantum computing
• Furthermore, initiate and lead an independent research program capable of securing external funding
• Additionally, demonstrate a strong record of originality and productivity in high-quality research
• Moreover, develop theoretical approaches and implement quantum computing and AI tools in research (added advantage)

Academic Service:

• Furthermore, contribute to curricular development and program enhancement
• Additionally, participate in service activities, including committee work
• Moreover, provide student advising and foster industry collaborations
• Furthermore, supervise research projects at undergraduate and graduate levels

Required Qualifications:

• To begin with, candidates must hold a Ph.D. in Quantum Computing or closely related fields from an accredited, highly ranked institution (Top 200 QS ranked)
• Furthermore, a strong record of originality and productivity in high-quality research
• Additionally, a minimum of two years of teaching experience at both undergraduate and graduate levels
• Moreover, experience in developing theoretical approaches and implementing quantum computing and AI tools in research (added advantage)
