Job Description

The Finance Department at the American University of Sharjah (AUS) invites applications for an Accountant – Accounts Receivable (AR) position. Therefore, this role offers an excellent opportunity to support the Assistant Manager of Finance in performing day-to-day activities within the Accounts Receivable function.

Position Overview:
The successful candidate will manage student accounts, process payments, issue invoices, coordinate with sponsors, and maintain accurate financial records. Furthermore, they must ensure full compliance with IFRS and UAE VAT regulations in all financial transactions.

Key Responsibilities:

Student Account Management:

  • First and foremost, attend and clarify all queries from students and/or their representatives in a timely and sufficient manner
  • Subsequently, ensure accurate allocation and booking of all day-to-day data entries in students’ accounts including payments, deferments, financial holds, and document release holds
  • Additionally, ensure all charges are properly booked to students’ accounts
  • Consequently, perform periodic reconciliations to maintain healthy records

Invoicing & Payments:

  • In the first instance, promptly issue invoices and follow up on their payments
  • Moreover, coordinate with internal business partners to issue invoices and follow up on payments
  • Similarly, follow up on invoice payments issued to customers, sponsors, and business partners
  • As a result, generate related reports as required to track payment status

Coordination:

  • Furthermore, coordinate all matters with the scholarship office and sponsor representatives to ensure prompt resolution of issues
  • Additionally, maintain registration period through coordination with other sections at Finance and other departments at AUS
  • Finally, update the Office of Alumni Affairs and Office of Research and Grants on invoice payment status monthly

Reporting & Analysis:

  • In addition, assist the AR Assistant Manager with accounts receivable aging analysis and other reports
  • Consequently, contribute to financial reporting and analysis activities that support departmental goals

Required Qualifications & Skills:

  • To begin with, candidates must hold a Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, or related field
  • Furthermore, they need minimum of two (2) years of relevant accounting experience
  • Additionally, they should demonstrate solid understanding and practical experience with IFRS
  • Moreover, candidates require knowledge of and experience with UAE VAT regulations and compliance
  • Similarly, familiarity with ERP systems is essential
  • Furthermore, strong analytical and financial reporting skills are necessary
  • Additionally, experience in credit management and receivables provides an advantage
  • Likewise, proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel, is required
  • Moreover, excellent communication and interpersonal skills are essential
  • In addition, strong time management and organizational abilities are necessary
  • Furthermore, effective problem-solving skills with attention to detail are required
  • Finally, demonstrated punctuality and reliability are expected

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Ideally, candidates will hold professional qualifications such as ACCA / CIMA / CPA / ACA / CMA
  • Furthermore, three years of relevant experience is preferred
  • Additionally, Arabic language proficiency provides an advantage
