Job Description

The Department of Civil Engineering & Architecture at Sultan Qaboos University (SQU) invites applications for Associate Professor or Assistant Professor positions specializing in Hydrology and Climate Change. The successful candidate will contribute to teaching, research, and service in water resources and climate change adaptation.

General Duties:

• Teach academic courses within specialization in accordance with quality standards
• Supervise graduation projects and postgraduate theses (Master’s and PhD)
• Provide academic advising and support students
• Attend departmental and college council meetings
• Participate in internal and external committees
• Prepare and publish scholarly research
• Offer scientific consultations and participate in conferences
• Contribute to community service through workshops and seminars
• Build local and international partnerships

Specific Duties:

• Utilize advanced Climate Change models (e.g. GCMs) for innovative research in hydrology, water resources, and climate change adaptation
• Develop and deliver undergraduate and postgraduate courses integrating Climate Change models (English medium)
• Supervise, advise, and mentor students at undergraduate and postgraduate levels
• Publish research findings in reputable refereed journals and conferences
• Engage in interdisciplinary research projects for arid and semi-arid areas
• Demonstrate track record of attracting external funds and consultancies
• Participate in departmental and university committees

Required Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree, M.Sc., and PhD in Civil Engineering or Water Resources Engineering from a reputable university
• In-depth knowledge in hydrology, climate change, or related areas
• Minimum 3 years university teaching and research experience
• Good record of research including publications in reputable refereed journals
• Ability to teach effectively at undergraduate and postgraduate levels
• Participation in community and professional service activities
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, planning, and organizational skills
• Ability to work collaboratively with colleagues
• Strong oral and written English communication skills
• Professional licensing or certification (advantageous)

• Qualifications must be obtained through full-time study (distance, blended learning not accepted)
• Medical fitness required
