Job Description
The College of General Education at the University of Doha for Science and Technology (UDST) invites applications for a faculty position as Assistant or Associate Professor in Biology. Therefore, this role offers an exceptional opportunity to contribute to undergraduate biology education at Qatar’s first national university specializing in applied and technical education.
About UDST:
University of Doha for Science and Technology was officially established by the Emiri Decision No13 of 2022, and it is the first national university specializing in academic applied, technical, and professional education in the State of Qatar. Furthermore, UDST has over 70 bachelor’s and master’s degree programs, diplomas, and certificates. Additionally, the university houses 5 colleges:
- College of Business
- College of Computing and Information Technology
- College of Engineering and Technology
- College of Health Sciences
- College of General Education
Position Overview:
The biology faculty will focus on delivering high-quality teaching in the College of General Education curriculum and fostering a positive learning environment to support all UDST academic programs. Furthermore, the role involves teaching first- and second-year undergraduate biology courses in areas such as microbiology, biochemistry, advanced biology courses aligned with the candidate’s expertise, and science electives. Additionally, responsibilities include curriculum development, supporting students’ academic progress, and conducting independent research.
Key Responsibilities:
Teaching & Learning:
- First and foremost, deliver high-quality instruction in first- and second-year undergraduate biology courses
- Additionally, teach microbiology, biochemistry, environmental biology, or plant biology courses
- Furthermore, develop technology-enriched learning environments that enable students to be active participants in their own education
- Moreover, integrate AI, digital tools, and virtual labs to enhance student engagement
- In addition, design and deliver teaching materials across a range of courses using student-centered strategies
- Furthermore, create and evaluate authentic assessment tools that reliably measure mastery of course learning outcomes
- Additionally, manage resources of the learning environment, including print, online, university, and community resources
- Moreover, maintain course portfolio documents required for program review and accreditation processes
Scholarship & Research:
- Furthermore, contribute to the advancement of knowledge through applied research, publications, knowledge transfer, or professional practice
- Additionally, maintain a research focus in microbiology, biochemistry, environmental biology, or plant biology
- Moreover, establish relevant professional memberships or affiliations with industry and academic bodies
- Furthermore, generate research projects with university, national, and international impact aligning with UDST’s applied research mission and Qatar’s 2030 National Vision
Professional Development & University Service:
- In addition, participate in curriculum development projects to enhance cross-college and interdisciplinary collaboration
- Furthermore, contribute positively to university activities and initiatives, including committee work related to curriculum, assessment, student success, and community outreach
- Moreover, stay aligned with current pedagogical trends in biology and education technology through professional organization membership
Required Education:
- To begin with, candidates must have a Ph.D. in Biology from a recognized institution
- Preference given to candidates specializing in Microbiology, Biochemistry, Environmental Biology, or Plant Biology
- A postgraduate qualification in education, pedagogy, or teaching and learning in higher education (or equivalent) is desirable
Required Experience:
- A minimum of three (3) years of full-time teaching experience in higher education institutions is preferred
- A combination of recent, relevant academic and/or professional experience may be considered an asset
- Experience teaching across multiple disciplines within the department is highly desirable
Teaching & Learning Competencies:
- Commitment to UDST’s mandate of excellence in applied and experiential teaching and learning pedagogies
- Experience teaching biology with extension into sustainability and health
- Demonstrated experience in developing courses in microbiology, biochemistry, environmental biology, or plant biology
- Digital literacy and demonstrated fluency in UDST’s learning management system
- Ability to model and facilitate the use of current and emerging digital platforms
Personal Skills & Knowledge:
- Commitment to creative thinking and analysis to make informed decisions
- Demonstrate leadership and initiative, reliability, responsibility, and flexibility
- Effective written and verbal communication skills in English
