About Candidate
Dr RAM KUMAR S
Associate Professor in Physics | Academic Leader | Nanoscience & Materials Researcher
Bengaluru, India | raamkumarr55@gmail.com | +91-9133269555
Dear Selection Committee,
I am writing to express my interest in an academic position in physics at your institution. I bring a combination of teaching experience, research training in nanoscience and technology, academic administration, and a genuine interest in helping students develop strong scientific thinking. My professional journey has allowed me to work across classroom teaching, laboratory instruction, research, student mentoring, examinations, academic coordination, and departmental leadership.
My academic foundation is in physics, with an M.Sc. from JNTUH and a Ph.D. in nanoscience and technology from JNTUH-CNST-IST. My research has focused on polymer electrolytes and nanocomposite materials, including PEO-based thin-film polymer electrolytes incorporating salts and nano-fillers. I have worked with structural, morphological, compositional, dielectric, and conductivity characterisation, using techniques such as XRD, SEM, and EDX. I am also interested in extending this work toward conducting polymers, ceramic-based nanocomposites, sensors, and functional materials.
Research has been complemented by early exposure to national scientific and research environments. My project experience includes ISRO-SHAR at Sriharikota, NRSA/NRSC Hyderabad, and ACRHEM at the University of Hyderabad. These experiences taught me the value of careful experimentation, data interpretation, teamwork, and scientific discipline. They continue to influence the way I approach both research and teaching.
As an educator, I have taught a broad range of undergraduate and postgraduate physics courses, including Engineering Physics, Applied Physics, Material Science, Electronics and Sensors, Thermodynamics, Atomic and Nuclear Physics, Laser Physics, Fibre Optics, Biophysics, Computational Physics, and Data Analysis. I have also handled practical courses in optics, lasers, electronics, sensors, material science, and experimental physics. My teaching approach is student-centred: I try to make difficult concepts understandable, connect theory with experiments and applications, and encourage students to ask questions rather than simply memorise answers.
In academic leadership roles, including Associate Professor and Head of the Department of Physics at Acharya Institute of General Studies, I have contributed to academic planning, departmental
development, student guidance, laboratory activities, examination responsibilities, and institutional coordination. I have also served in conference leadership and editorial roles, including Steering Chair for FPCS-2024 and Editorial Board Member for its proceedings. These responsibilities have strengthened my ability to work collaboratively, organise academic activities, and contribute beyond the classroom.
I would like to join an institution where I can contribute meaningfully to teaching, research, student mentoring, and academic development. I would particularly welcome opportunities to build collaborative research around nanomaterials, conducting polymers, ceramic nanocomposites, sensors, and related functional materials, while supporting students through project work and postgraduate research.
I believe my greatest contribution would be the combination of a teacher’s perspective, a researcher’s curiosity, and an academic administrator’s sense of responsibility. I would be pleased to bring this experience, along with a willingness to learn and collaborate, to your institution.
Thank you for considering my application. I would welcome the opportunity to discuss how my experience and interests could contribute to your academic and research priorities.
Sincerely,
Dr Ram Kumar S
