Canadian University Dubai (CUD) invites applications for a Laboratory Technician – Electromechanical & Mechatronics Engineering position within the School of Engineering, Applied Science and Technology (SEAST).

The role supports undergraduate teaching laboratories serving the Mechatronics Engineering and Power and Renewable Energy Engineering programmes within the Department of Electrical Engineering.

This is a full-time technical position based at CUD’s City Walk campus in Dubai, United Arab Emirates.

About the Role

The Laboratory Technician will support the effective operation of undergraduate engineering laboratories and help ensure that students and academic staff have access to safe, reliable, and properly maintained laboratory facilities.

The position is central to:

• Safe laboratory operations.
• Reliable equipment performance.
• Preparation and delivery of laboratory sessions.
• Technical support for students and academic staff.
• Quality assurance and accreditation readiness.
• Supporting student projects and applied research activities.

The successful candidate will report to the Dean or Chair of Electrical Engineering.

Qualifications and Experience

Applicants must hold a Diploma or Bachelor’s degree in one of the following or a closely related discipline:

• Electromechanical Engineering
• Mechatronics Engineering
• Electrical Engineering
• Power Engineering

Applicants should also demonstrate:

• Formal training or experience in laboratory or technical support roles.
• Hands-on experience with electrical and mechatronics laboratory equipment.
• Strong understanding of laboratory safety practices.
• Ability to troubleshoot hardware and system-level technical issues.
• Effective organisational and communication skills.

Relevant Technical Knowledge

Applicants should have working knowledge of one or more of the following areas:

• Robotics and automation systems.
• Renewable energy systems, including solar, wind, and energy storage.
• Smart factory systems.
• Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs).
• Industrial control systems.
• Power electronics.
• Electrical machines.

Key Responsibilities

The Laboratory Technician will be expected to:

• Manage laboratory inventory, consumables, and equipment records.
• Prepare, set up, and test experiments before scheduled laboratory sessions.
• Provide technical assistance during laboratory classes, demonstrations, and workshops.
• Maintain laboratory equipment and systems.
• Calibrate equipment as required.
• Troubleshoot laboratory hardware and system-level faults.
• Ensure equipment operates safely and reliably.
• Support compliance with health and safety requirements.
• Contribute to accreditation preparation, audits, and continuous improvement activities.
• Support student projects and capstone activities.
• Assist faculty-led applied research activities where required.
• Guide students in the safe use of laboratory equipment and engineering systems.

Laboratory Areas

Technical support will span applied engineering areas including:

• Electromechanical systems and mechatronics.
• Industrial automation and PLC-based control.
• Robotics and automation training platforms.
• Power electronics and electrical machines laboratory equipment.
• Renewable energy and smart energy systems.

The Laboratory Technician will contribute to the preparation, delivery support, and continuous improvement of laboratory sessions, demonstrations, and technical workshops.

The successful candidate will support practical and applied activities designed to improve student outcomes and strengthen departmental technical capability.

• Capstone projects.
