Job Description

The Program of Gifted Education at Arabian Gulf University (AGU) seeks highly qualified applicants for a faculty position at the rank of Associate Professor or Professor in Gifted Education with specialization in Gifted Identification. The position is within the Department of Special Education, College of Education, Administrative and Technical Sciences.

Position Overview:


The successful candidate will join the faculty members in the Program of Gifted Education with responsibilities for face-to-face teaching, advising graduate-level students (both master’s and doctoral), and designing and conducting rigorous research in the area of gifted identification.

Reporting Structure:
The Professor/Associate Professor reports to the Department of Gifted Education Chairperson.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Teach and coordinate graduate courses in the master’s and PhD programs in Gifted Education
  • Supervise graduate students
  • Conduct research in the area of gifted and talented programs
  • Prepare and develop a multi-dimensional identification process for selecting gifted and talented learners
  • Serve on program, department, college, and university-wide committees
  • Collaborate with program faculty on accreditation data collection and reporting efforts

Required Knowledge:

  • Knowledge of multiple criteria for developing a unique gifted identification system that considers different populations of gifted learners (academically, creatively, musically gifted students)

Required Skills:

  • Critical thinking, problem-solving, leadership, and time management
  • Skills in statistical packages (SPSS, R, SAS, Comprehensive Meta-Analysis)
  • Ability to evaluate best practices in gifted identification
  • Ability to work under pressure
  • Ability to engage in scholarly productivity through publishing and presenting at regional and international conferences

Required Talents:

  • Effective management, communication, and interpersonal skills

Minimum Qualifications:

  • PhD degree from an accredited college or university in Gifted Education or an educational field
  • Evidence of scientific productivity in gifted education (at least 5 publications)
  • Evidence of relevant teaching experience at the graduate level

Education:

  • PhD in Gifted and Creative Education OR PhD in Educational Psychology with at least 5 publications in gifted education

Experience:

  • Experience with program accreditation
  • Experience working with in-service and pre-service educators
  • Experience working with graduate-level students

Special Skills:

  • Designing identification tools and procedures for selecting gifted students for gifted programs

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience working with gifted youth
  • Record of successful involvement in P-12 schools
  • Advanced knowledge of using different Learning Management Systems (LMS)
  • Ability to use technology innovatively
