Job Description

The College of Engineering invites applications for two full-time Assistant Professor positions in Mechanical Engineering. Therefore, this role offers an excellent opportunity to contribute to teaching, curriculum development, and academic service at a dynamic institution in Oman.

Position Overview:
The Assistant Professor positions are responsible to the Head of Academic Department for learning and teaching, course design and development, delivery, assessment, student academic support, and research activities. Furthermore, successful candidates will contribute to the academic mission of the department through innovative teaching practices and scholarly engagement.

Position Details:

• Grade: Assistant Professor
• Minimum Qualification: Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or relevant field (Bachelor’s degree must also be in Mechanical Engineering)
• Number of Vacancies: Two
• Nationality: Omani nationals and expatriates welcome
• Experience: Minimum 2 years of experience
• Reporting to: Head of Academic Department
• Salary and Benefits: As per contract
• Effective Start Date: March 1, 2026 (appraised annually)

Key Responsibilities:

Teaching & Curriculum Development:

• First and foremost, prepare and deliver structured modules with clearly defined aims, objectives, learning outcomes, and assessment methods
• Additionally, deliver courses/modules individually or in collaboration with other academic staff
• Furthermore, use pedagogies suited to student experience and level of understanding
• Moreover, develop new and innovative methods for course/module/program design and delivery
• Additionally, implement new approaches to learning, teaching, assessment, and student support

Assessment & Student Support:

• Furthermore, prepare and mark assessments using approved methods and protocols
• Additionally, ensure quality assurance standards are maintained in all teaching, learning, assessment, and student support activities
• Moreover, maintain accurate records of student attendance and assessment marks
• Additionally, provide timely, accurate, and useful written feedback on all forms of assessment
• Furthermore, deliver quality teaching and learning environments that support student success

Research & Scholarship:

• In addition, develop personal and departmental research and scholarship
• Furthermore, engage in individual and collective department research activities
• Additionally, develop a research profile that enhances the reputation of the individual and the College
• Moreover, participate in developing new and innovative academic programs

Networking & Collaboration:

• Furthermore, develop networks and collaborations with professional bodies, industry, and the community
• Additionally, develop partnerships with other universities and colleges in Oman and internationally
• Moreover, engage with professional bodies and external agencies
• Furthermore, ensure continuing professional development affecting staff and students

Academic Service:

• Additionally, attend all Department and College meetings and committees as required
• Furthermore, undertake academic administration duties as required by the Head of Department
• Moreover, provide reports and other information by due dates
• Additionally, engage in College staff development activities and events
• Furthermore, participate in student recruitment and admissions activities
• Moreover, engage in academic department reviews to enhance effectiveness and reputation

Required Qualifications & Experience:

• To begin with, candidates must possess an Undergraduate and Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering from a recognized local or international Higher Education institution
• Furthermore, a minimum of 2 years of experience as an academic in a local and/or internationally recognized higher education college or university
• Additionally, experience and ability to deliver Foundation and Undergraduate degree-level teaching, assessment, and student support
• Moreover, excellent verbal and written communication skills, interpersonal and diplomatic skills
• Finally, experience delivering learning, teaching, and assessment in higher education

About the Role:
The Assistant Professor will maintain and improve the reputation of the discipline field at national and international levels. Consequently, they will play an active role in the advancement of the department and college.
