Job Title: Professor/Associate Professor in Gifted Education; Specialization: Gifted Programs and Curriculum
Department of Gifted Education, College of Graduate Studies

Nature of Work


The Department of Gifted Education at the Arabian Gulf University seeks highly qualified applicants for an associate professor/professor in Gifted Education. The applicant is expected to be part of the faculty members in the Department of Gifted Education with responsibilities for (a) face-to-face teaching, (b) advising graduate-level students, both master’s and doctoral students, and (c) designing and conducting rigorous research in the areas of gifted programs and curriculum.

Examples of Work Performed


The duties and responsibilities of the position include, but are not limited to:

  • Teach/coordinate graduate courses in the master’s and the PhD programs in Gifted Education.
  • Students’ supervision.
  • Conduct research in the area of gifted and talented programs.
  • Prepare and implement multi-dimensional curriculum and programs for gifted learners.
  • Serve on program, department, college, and university-wide committees.
  • Collaborate with program faculty on accreditation data collection and reporting efforts.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

To be successful in this position, the employee will need the following:

  • Knowledge: knowledge in multiple criteria for developing a unique, gifted program that meets the cognitive needs of gifted and talented students.
  • Skills:
  • (1) Critical thinking, problem-solving, leadership, and time management.
  • (2) Skills in statistical packages (e.g., SPSS, R, SAS, Comprehensive Meta-Analysis).
  • Ability:
  • (1) The ability to evaluate gifted curriculum and instructional strategies.
  • (2) The ability to work under pressure.
  • (3) The ability to engage in scholarly productivity through publishing and presenting regularly at regional and international conferences in the field of gifted education.
  • Talents: Effective management, communication and interpersonal skills.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Ph.D. degree from an accredited college or university in gifted education or educational fields.
  • Evidence of scientific productivity in the field of gifted education (5 publications at least).
  • Evidence of relevant teaching experience at the graduate level is expected.
  • Education: PhD degree in gifted and creative education or a PhD degree in educational psychology with at least 5 publications in gifted education.
  • Experience:
  • (1) Experience with program accreditation.
  • (2) Experience working with in-service and preservice educators.
  • (3) Experience working with graduate-level students.
  • Special Skills: Curriculum development and assessment experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working with gifted youth.
  • A record of successful involvement in P-12 schools.
  • The ability to use technology in innovative ways is strongly preferred. More specifically, advanced knowledge of using different learning managerial systems (LMS) is also preferred.
